If you get on eBay and search for Task Group 12V battery, people are selling 10-20 times cheaper than DEWALT etc. Look, all these have the same 'size' s Ni-Cad batteries in them. Just take the case apart and remove the battery assembly. Then you can take a low power soldering iron and some welding (basic flow is easier to get to stick).
